This design for this kitchen in a historic apartment in Cologne blends two styles. It combines the original, historic tile elements with the personal contemporary style of my clients.
To contrast the green tile elements, a bright red-orange was chosen for the kitchen fronts and combined with brushed stainless steel countertops. Since the clients* are in the wine business, the wall shelf above the kitchen counter has an integrated wine glass holder and also allows them to display their wines in style. The edges of the countertops are inspired by the shape of naturally broken slate to break up the otherwise straight lines. This is where minimalism meets organic shapes.
