Lapis Lounge Chairs

The Lapis Lounge Chair is part of a collection of versatile seating objects, made to challenge people's perception: what initially appears to be hard and rough reveals its true nature when touching it for the first time. 

The production of each piece is started from one single large block of soft foam. By carefully ripping it the individual components are shaped. The interaction between chance and intention that is involved in the process of tearing the foam, results in the stone-like surface which each piece derives its unique character from.

To ensure durability while maintaining the material’s softness, the raw foam is covered with a very flexible coating that is UV-resistant and waterproof. This finishing layer protects the foam against outdoor conditions without any compromise to the tactile quality. Therefore, the collection becomes a set of objects that not only invite touch but also challenge expectations and celebrate the beauty that is found in the contrast between the rough look and the soft material.
